OUR STORY

My name is Kneelen and I'm the founder of Your Local Fairy Godmother.  YLFG is a sustainable clothing(& more!) brand.  It's about more than good fashion - it's about curating a sustainable community through stylish, recycled material and putting art back in fashion.

YLFG's mission goes past repurposing old fabric and yarn.  Anything can be transformed into clothes- you'll find shower curtains and futon covers in many of my clothing lines, which often include a dash of my own personal painting style.  In my eyes, everything is a canvas.

 

I have always had a passion for fashion, ever since my grandmother taught me how to sew at 6 years old.  As I got older, the climate crisis became more and more apparent and I wanted to do something, anything to help.  I decided to leave my rural hometown in Southern Maine to attend Colorado State University and study Fashion Design with a concentration in Sustainable Fashion. 

 

What is sustainable fashion?  Sustainable fashion refers to clothing/products that are designed, manufactured, distributed, and used in ways that are environmentally friendly.  I implement sustainability in many different ways.  I collect donated clothes from my community and cut them up to make new patch fabric, I utilize plant dyeing methods, I mainly thrift all of my fabrics, and if I purchase fabrics they are hemp or bamboo cotton.
